Columbus, April and 81 Degrees: Things to Do This Week-end!
by Erin LaBuda
Well, it looks like this Sunday is going to be a very warm, 81 degree APRIL day! As all of us Central Ohioans have come to realize, there is no way to prepare for the last frost of the season or the first day we're going to need to wear shorts so, assuming the "scattered thunderstorms" miss us, here are some things to do outdoors this Sunday while the temperature lasts...
1) Visit Blooms & Butterflies at The Franklin Park Conservatory: Although this exhibit is indoors (the butterflies are released daily at 1PM & 3PM), once you pay admission, you can also roam the grounds and check out the spring gardens.
2) Check out The Topiary Park located at 480 E. Towne St, downtown Columbus. Open sunrise to sunset 7 days a week 365 days a year, Sunday will be a great day to walk through some living works of art!
3) Whetstone Park is famous for the beautiful rose gardens but this time of year you can visit the Daffodill Gardens where over 1000 types of Daffodills will hopefully be in bloom.
4) This may not be an original idea, but go visit the Columbus Zoo! Once the weather warms up and the kids are out of school the zoo is just that, a zoo! But, in early April, maybe you'll be able to take your time and not have to fight the crowds while visiting #1 Zoo in America! (USA Travel Guide, 2009)
No matter how you decide to spend this Sunday, enjoy it! The temperatures will dip back in to the 50's next week and then who knows...after all, it is Columbus, Ohio!
