Don't postpone retirement because of the real estate market!

I recently read an excellent article in TopRetirements.com telling people not to put their retirement plans on hold because they are worried that they won't be able to sell their house. Here are the arguments they make:
- Although your house is not worth what is was during the 2006 peak, neither is the house you will be purchasing! You should be able to buy your new home at a barbain price.
- If you are a baby boomer, the chances are your house is still worth more than you paid for it. Be happy with that and don't worry about what it was at one time.
- Your home may not go back to its 2006 value for years, if ever. How long do you want to wait?
- Despite what you hear, homes are selling. They must be priced right and in excellent condition and they must be marketed well. Talk to your Realtor about pricing your home (we'll be glad to help you with that).
If you are not ready to retire, waiting to see what happens to home values makes sense, but if you are ready to take the next step, do it. Get your home ready, choose a good agent, price it competitively and move on to the next chapter with no regrets. Life is short!
Any comments?
