Summer is upon us which means vacations and long week-ends for many families.  Here are a few suggestions from our local police officer to keep thieves away from your home:

  • Put inside and outside lights on electronic timers.  It is important that the outside of the house is very well lit at night.
  • Check all windows and doors to make sure they are locked before you leave town.
  • Let your neighbors know you will be away.  Give at least one neighbor a key and your cell phone number or other contact numbers in case of emergency.
  • Invest in a security system and make sure it is activated while you are gone.
  • Have your newspaper and mail stopped or have a neighbor pick them up every day.
  • Do not leave your car outside, if at all possible.

The main idea is to give the impression that someone is at home!
