Upper Arlington
UPPER ARLINGTON
Founded in 1918 on 840 acres along the Scioto River, Upper Arlington was one of the earliest examples of a "planned community". Today it covers an area of 9.67 square miles and boasts a population of more than 34,000. Its location makes it convenient to the Ohio State University campus and downtown Columbus, which is a 10-15 minute commute, yet it retains the flavor of an older, established, tree-lined residential community.
From the stately homes bordering the prestigious Scioto Country Club to smaller ranch-style houses in more modelst neighborhoods, Upper Arlington homes range from about $150,000 to several million dollars.
Upper Arlington residents take great pride in their community and work together to offer excellent city services, cultural events and activities such as the locally famous 4th of July Parade and the Labor Day Arts Festival. The city boasts 3 libraries, 33 parks, 35 tennis courts, 3 outdoor pools, a senior center and many recreational programs for residents of all ages. The 500-acre Griggs Reservoir offers fishing, boating and hiking and biking trails.
Upper Arlington Schools are among the best in Ohio, placing in the top 2% of the nation in SAT scores. 95% of area high school graduates go on to college. The school district is comprised of 5 elementary schools, including an "alternative" elementary school, 2 middle schools and 1 high school, offering a wide variety of courses and extra-curricular activities.
