  HILLIARD

In 1869,  the Village of Hilliard was incorporated with a population of 280 residents,  between Big Darby Creek on the west and the Scioto River on the east.  The town grew around the railroad route of the Piqua and Indiana Railroads, which transported agricultural products from area farms to market and brought supplies to the farmers in the area. 

Today, Hilliard is one of the largest suburbs of Columbus, with 25,000 residents.  It boasts a convenient location on the west side of the metropolitan area -- 15 miles from downtown Columbus, 18 miles from the Port Columbus Airport and minutes from 1-270.  A blend of the old and the new, Hilliard offers a charming historic district and the restored original train station in Weaver Park as well as a diverse blend of new housing developments and business districts. 

Hilliard's well-regarded school district is the 9th largest in the state of Ohio.  The schools, many of which are new or recently renovated, consist of 2 high schools, 3 middle schools, 2 6th grade schools and 14 elementary schools.

Hilliard prides itself on its friendly small-town atmosphere and its family-oriented facilities.  It well-equipped parks and recreational facilities include 17 city parks, an 80-acre Municipal Park, two Olympic-size swimming pools, the award-winning Homestead Park and the new Hilliard/Ray Patch Family YMCA with a fitness center, indoor pool and gym with climbing wall.  Its unique Heritage Rail Trail is a 7-mile trail for walking, running, biking or skating, which extends from Old Hilliard to Plain City. 

With its wide variety of housing, Hilliard offers everything from historic homes along Norwich Street to upscale housing developments such as Ballantrae, which is found on the border of Hilliard and Dublin.  Prices range from under $100,000 for a small condominium to more than $600,000 for a luxury home.
