Located northeast of Columbus and settled by the Westervelts from New York, Westerville was named for them after they donated land for a church. A bustling town from the start, Westerville was home to a seminary, Otterbein University, and had a place in history with stops on the Underground Railroad. It also was a legal battlefield over prohibition.
A small city with over 14,000 residents, Westerville offers a variety of neighborhoods, from the historic downtown and campus areas, to the tree-lined established residential neighborhoods and areas of new builds as well.
Arts & Culture
Westerville has access to world-class music, theatre, and musical theatre on Otterbein’s campus, as well as a thriving Civic theatre. An annual music festival attracts music lovers from all over, and the big city cultural opportunities to attend operas, theatre, ballet, concerts, and more are just a short drive into the Columbus.
From the boutiques, bistros, and galleries in the historic district of Westerville, to the recently renovated shopper’s paradise of Polaris Fashion Place, to the big city shopping found close to home in the city of Columbus, there is everything you could wish for right here.
Westerville offers family owned dining establishments all through the town’s bustling historic district, and an endless array of eateries from family restaurants, to fine dining, and all the franchises you could ask for in between. With one of the largest and most successful malls in Ohio right here, the commercial area attracts great dining establishments.
Westerville Schools is the 11th largest district in the state, serving over 15,000 students. The class of 2017 earned more than $25 million dollars in scholarships to post-secondary institutions and more than 80 percent of their students go on to four year colleges and universities. They offer a variety of unique programs on the academic front, and a solid athletics program for student athletes. The city is also home to Otterbein University, a private liberal arts college, and Hondros College of Business.
